Plate calculator

Type the weight you want on the bar and see which plates go on each side, largest first, the way everyone actually loads one. Says so when a weight cannot be made from standard plates, and gives you the nearest that can. It is the same plate maths the app shows beside every barbell set. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

In the app the plate maths sits under the weight field of every barbell lift, along with warm-up ramps and last time's numbers.

Second tool

Percentage of your 1RM, loaded.

Programs prescribe percentages; bars take plates. Enter a one-rep max and every step from 50% to 100% is rounded to the nearest weight you can actually load, with the plates per side for the bar picked above.

Rounded to the nearest 2.5 kg, the smallest step a pair of 1.25 kg plates gives you. No 1RM handy? Estimate one from any set.

Assumptions, stated. Standard commercial-gym plates only: 25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5 and 1.25 kg, or 45, 35, 25, 10, 5 and 2.5 lb. A greedy solve, largest plates first, which is also how people load a bar. If your gym has change plates under 1.25 kg or fractional lb plates, some of the weights marked unloadable here are loadable there. Collars are not counted.
